3D Printing

3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping

MP 3D Designs LLC offers a wide range of services from simple machining to product design and development

Rapid Prototyping

3D printing builds parts through an additive process allowing for the creation of complex designs. Parts can be grown in variety of materials from thermoplastic like resins to directly castable models. We utilize some of the latest 3D printing technologies. Choose from stereolithography (SLS/SLA), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), or direct metal sintering (DMLS). We will help you choose the very best printing process for your model and individual needs!

FDM 3D Printing

FDM 3D Printing
FDM Printing uses a spool of plastic filament, the plastic is fed into an extruder head that melts the plastic and extrudes a 0.35mm diameter thread. The printer uses 3D CAD data that it previously sliced into layers to print your models.

FDM Models are highly accurate engineering grade thermoplastic perfect for:
Manufacturing aids; Jigs and fixtures, low volume production, composite layup tooling, fully functional prototypes, sand casting mold cores.

FDM can create complex shapes that would otherwise cause problems with more traditional methods of manufacturing.

FDM
MODEL CONSIDERATIONS

Minimum Wall Thickness: 0.4mm

Height to wall thickness ratio: 4:1

Threads: use a dog point of .8mm, small threads are not viable for FDM

Fillets: Add strength to walls with sharp inside corners

Assemblies: assemblies must have the proper gap between parts or they will fuse together

SLA 3D Printing

Stereolithography models are great for plastic models that require transparent parts, fine details.
Selective Laser Sintering
SLS Models are great for fully functional durable plastic prototypes with highly complex geometries. Grown parts are tough and dimensionally accurate but have a rough surface finish

SLA uses a laser beam and a tank of liquid resin to produce parts.   The laser beam draws on the surface of a build platform that is immerse in resin, the light causes the resin to solidify layer by layer to create the model.

SLS uses a heated bed of powdered plastic and a laser to create parts. The laser melts layers of powdered plastic material, fusing them together, before adding another layer of plastic and repeating the process.   SLS is unique because it does not require supports making model clean up much easier!

DLP (Direct Cast) 3D Printing

We can grow your model and take it one step further! We offer direct casting of 3/D printed models.

Yes we are a precious metals and bronze casting company!  We are experts, combining the finest craftsmanship and  experience to supply you with  the best castings available!  Whether you have a file or need one we can help you from start to finish. We will print and cast and finish your piece for you to your specifications. We are happy to make prototypes , one of a kind artisan pieces or multi piece casting production runs! MP 3D Designs even  offers finishing of your castings to your specifications.
